PLEASE DO NOT SEND US ANY APPLICATIONS FOR ADOPTION OF ARROW.  SHE IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION.

Arrow is the loveliest tiny female rough-coated Collie anyone has ever seen.  And sweet natured and funny and all things good with one exception.  At 2 1/2 years old, he had already had two dead litters of puppies.  And she is in kidney failure.  According to the diagnostic ultrasound that was performed at Southern Colorado Internal Veterinary Medicine in Colorado Springs, Arrow has renal dysplasia which means that her kidneys formed poorly.  Bad breeding?  Probably.  Injury? Possibly.  Kidney failure is a tragic disease to see in a young dog that should have a whole lifetime of love and fun ahead of her.  In addition to being badly dehydrated, she also had a raging kidney infection.  So we have treated her with some longer term antibiotics that were shown in a 'urine culture with sensitivity' to be specific for her infection.  Her kidney infection is finally cleared.  And a fabulous nutritionist in Colorado Springs has designed a 'whole food' diet just for Arrow and her specific nutritional needs.  She will always need periodic IV or subQ fluids to reduce the strain on her kidneys and cleanse them the way dialysis does for humans.

All of the veterinary literature tells us that her life will be brief, perhaps a couple of years at most.  It is not what any of us want to believe.  Arrow will go to live with Tim and Sharon, RMCSR Board members extraordinaire, who know full well what it will take to keep her comfortable and content.  She will have two other Collies to play with and share dog beds with.  And a holistic veterinarian to do acupuncture and use Standard Process supplements to support the kidney function she still has left.

Please send all the love you can spare to Arrow and a prayer or two would not hurt either.  She thanks you and we thank you.

Please begin the process for adoption by reading our Adoption Policies and, if we sound like the right group for you, fill out our online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously.  Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
