Learn more about the Shetland Sheepdog Sheltie.
Sweet little Minnie is an 8-year-old spayed female tri-colored Sheltie. She is shy in the way that a puppy mill survivor can be shy but not catatonic like some of them can be. She came to us from National Mill Dog Rescue and has gone into a foster home in Denver to learn all the things a good dog should know. Her vaccines are completed and she had a dental when she was spayed as well as a microchip implantation. She is crate-trained and on her way to being housebroken. She loves the company of other dogs. It is humans that she is not sure of. But her foster parents are A-okay!
Minnie was used as a breeding dog until she was not of any use any longer. She was getting too old to produce litters so she was discarded. Young Shelties have taken her place to be used up and then discarded as is the practice in these hell holes. The females that are lucky enough to have a place to go, have the opportunity for a decent life afterward. Too many of them are abandoned to starve or be killed in some awful way. Minnie was definitely one of the lucky ones.
The family that Minnie has been dreaming of all these years is out there just waiting to give her all the love she has been missing out on. They won’t mind that she is frightened to take a treat from their hands. They will slowly win her trust with gentle voices and lots of yummies. And when new things spook her, they will cry over the injustice done to this little beauty and promise her it will all be better soon. Might you be these gentle souls, all adults, another quiet dog to show her the ropes . . . does that sound like you?
