Learn more about the Shetland Sheepdog Sheltie.
Mahogany Molly is a lovely, 6-year-old spayed female sable and white Sheltie. She is an intelligent dog. If you watch her face, you can practically see the wheels turning. And she has an enormous amount of love to give to whomever her humans will eventually be. But sweet Molly is a product of a puppy mill and it shows in everything she does and does not do. Here at my home for the last 6 weeks, she knows our routines and our permanent dogs are her companions and life is pretty okay.
MollyIt is hard for Molly to relax completely when people are stirring. That may never change. As I sit here pounding away on the keyboard, she is nearby on a dogbed but she is not quite asleep. However, she has made some astounding progress, too. She trots from room to room with me as I do things during the day. She is going in and out of the doggie door and flies around the backyard with her tail up and a happy smile on her face. She will even share a dogbed with another pooch if the spirit moves her.
Little Molly is healthy. Her vaccines are all up to date and she is heartworm negative. Her previous owner’s vet put Molly on Doggie Prozac and although I am not a big proponent of drugs like that, the medication seems to be helping Molly be brave. I have added in an herbal from Pet Essences for emotional stability. Her progress is all about taking lots of baby steps until she emerges from her cocoon.
