Kenai, or "Little Rock Red" as we call him, is a fabulous dog in the making. Although he may not look his absolute best right now, he will in a couple of months when good food and loving care make up for all he missed as a commercial stud dog. He has a delightful sense of fun which surprised us because of where he came from. He loves to go on walks and is responsive on the leash. RocketMan is kennel-trained and loves the feel of a cushy dogbed. It is remarkable to watch him play with a toy! In the short time he has been with us, he has had all the vet care that was denied him in the puppy mill in Arkansas. He is heartworm negative (Hallelujah!), only slightly anemic, neutered, had a mass removed from his back (it was benign) and had a huge dental procedure in which he lost 21 abscessed teeth. Within 12 hours after his dental, Red was playing like a puppy. He is now completely toothless but eats like a champ. (He has an enzyme powder that helps him break down dog food to digest it well.) He needs weekly medicated baths to get his fur growing normally. If you live anywhere near our Director in Pueblo West, Hope has offered to bath him in Doggie Central as long as he needs it. Please don't pass him by because of what he has been through. At 10 years old, Red has a lifetime of experience and joy to bring to some human who will meet him halfway. As a wise woman once said, "The best revenge is a great life." We can't let the puppy miller spoil Red's whole life. We can make up for it by finding him just the right humans.
