**************************************************************************** To all twelve fabulous families that applied to adopt McTavish, the sweet and gentle Sheltie, thank you for your kindness and compassion. Your applications were all wonderful and that made it difficult to choose which family would make the best match for the dog. Our Director does quite a bit of the initial screening with the vet reference and phone interview. And then the all-important decision-making of the foster family takes over. It was determined that because of McT's emotional needs, he would do best with humans who were home all the time to make sure he felt secure. He went to his forever home earlier today, 1/27. And if he could, he would send love to each of you for thinking well of him. *****************************************************************************
McT is a 2-year-old, neutered male, sable merle Sheltie with a gentle demeanor. He came to us from our good friends at HSPPR in Colorado Springs. When we heard his recent history, he had good reason to be cautious. His owner was very ill and no one in the extended family could care for this beautiful little fellow. McT was so horribly stressed in the shelter that he backed into a corner and would not let anyone touch him. So it is with many Shelties. Exactly the opposite of their larger pencil-nosed friends, the Collies. A Collie would go to the front of the kennel and announce, "Someone has made a huge mistake. Get me out of here right now." And a Sheltie will put their little heads down and try to disappear. McT is in good general health, heartworm negative, his CBC and blood chemistries are good as well. His tummy is senstive and that again is stress related. McT needs a calm, stable and loving environment with at least one human home most of the time. He will bond closely with his people and look for reassurance from them. In just a couple of days, McT adores his foster family, although he continues to be noise sensitive and easily startled. He is spending time with a couple of other Shelties and they are very companionable together. Young children would be too much drama for him. Cats are okay and he is so sweet and gentle by nature that he might love a cat or two. We will have to wait and see where the universe leads us. We will begin to accept applications for McT but can not even consider a noisy environment with a lot of comings and goings. Calm and stable. That will be the ticket for him. **************************************************************
