“Aggie” is the sweetest 43# spayed female 2-year-old collie that anyone could imagine. Ags is cuddly and gentle with men, women and children. She likes other dogs and would want to be a part of a larger doggie-pack with at least one other male or female pal. Her vet care is completed and she is heartworm negative and updated with vaccines, microchipped and ready to rock and roll. She had a less than perfect first couple of years but fully intends to make up for it. Until she arrived with PC/SR, she lived in an outdoor enclosure with overnight privileges in a shop with other dogs. But she now has the run of a house with a doggie door and has mostly figured out that she should go potty outside and THEN come back in. Aggie and her sister Sandy have both come a long way.
When Aggie walks up to a person, she stretches out her long graceful neck to sniff you in greeting. And she continues the introduction by offering her front paw gently. If she is encouraged, she will sit in front of you and look into your eyes and wait to see how you want to proceed. She met a baby today who just turned a year old and she was fascinated. She did not set the tone. She let Madison decide how close she should get. Aggie may not have enough background socialization for very young children but she would definitely enjoy school age children if they were well behaved. She is making the most remarkable progress in her house manners. A dog bed is a wondrous thing to her. But a people bed is even better! If given the opportunity, she would become a full-fledged, 100% couch potato when she is not running and playing. And we believe that she has the makings of a terrific family dog, with appropriate continued training. A level 1 obedience class would teach her a great deal about communication and she would be a star.
Please read the adoption information section on our website at www.pueblocolliesheltie.org and then continue with the process by submitting a completed application if we seem like the right kind of rescue group for your family. As a breed specific rescue, we receive multiple applications for each dog and work hard to match the right dog to the right humans. Toward that end, we are pretty selective when screening applications and require a fenced yard, a wonderful vet reference and a home visit as well. Some people want to point to a dog and say,”I will take that one.” We don’t function that way. Our process has been fine-tuned over quite a few years and it works for our purposes. You will just have to trust us on this.
Please begin the process for adoption by reading our Adoption Policies and, if we sound like the right group for you, fill out our online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously. Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well. |
