JITTERBUG WILL BE STAYING WITH HER FOSTER FAMILY FOREVER.  Heartworm positive, tick-borne illness negative.  Jitterbug is a lovely 1 1/2 year old rough Collie that arrived from Arkansas with her AKC papers.  She is active and funny and will be a snuggly companion and extremely bonded to her humans after 6 months of leash walking only following heartworm treatment.  Her chest x-rays were sent by our Dr. Crook to a radiologist for a second opinion on the condition of her heart and lungs.  We are "good to go" for 30 days of Doxycycline, an Interceptor and a steroid....all in preparation for the Immiticide injections to actually kill the heartworms.  And as the heartworms die, they become brittle and can break off in segments and cause a heart attack or stroke.  That is why Bug will need to be kept very calm and quiet during the months following the actual treatment.

Preventing heartworm disease is easy and inexpensive.  Treating heartworm disease is complex and expensive and there is no guarantee that your beloved pet will survive the treatment.  So, PLEASE, heartworm test your dog or cat once a year and use heartworm prevention as prescribed by your most trusted vet.  Jitterbug had her bill of sale and her genealogy when she showed up in Colorado.  Better she should have had an Interceptor clutched in her paws.  Just saying'.

JITTERBUG WILL BE PLACED AS AN ONLY DOG WITH A LOVELY HUMAN OR TWO THAT ARE HOME ALL THE TIME.
